Uploading and Scoring Resumes

Last updated

Upload resumes directly from your computer. HireSalt accepts PDF and DOCX files up to 10 MB each, and scores each one against the job's criteria in the background.

How to Upload

  1. Open a job and go to the resume upload page.
  2. Drag files onto the drop area, or browse to select one or more files. To add a whole folder at once, use Upload Folder (Chrome, Edge and Firefox; not Safari).
  3. Each resume costs 1 credit to score. The page shows how many credits the batch will use.
  4. Click Score resumes. Large selections are sent in parts automatically; keep the page open until the upload finishes. Scoring then begins in the background.
  5. Scores appear in the Candidates tab as each resume finishes.
Tip: You can add as many resumes at once as your credits cover. Files over 10 MB are skipped, and files beyond your balance are marked so you can top up or remove them before scoring.

Supported Formats

  • PDF — The file must contain text. A scanned resume saved as an image is not read, because HireSalt does not run text recognition.
  • DOCX — Microsoft Word format. Text inside tables is not read, so skills listed only in a table are missed.

Other formats, including .doc, .txt, .rtf, .odt and image files, are rejected at upload. Convert older files to PDF or DOCX first.

Files that cannot be read

A file that is accepted but turns out to be unreadable, such as a scanned image or an empty page, is marked Failed and its credit is returned once processing finishes. Pressing Retry takes 1 credit again and returns it if the file still cannot be read, so convert the file to a text PDF or Word document before retrying.

Duplicates

Uploading the exact same file again is skipped with no charge. A re-saved copy of a resume, with the same text but a different file, is treated as a new candidate and uses a credit, so remove copies before you upload.

What you get back

Each scored resume shows a match score from 0 to 100, a letter grade, a short summary, the reasoning for each category, and a Career Story panel describing the candidate's career arc.
