Shortlisting Candidates
Last updated
Shortlisting marks your top candidates for further review. Shortlisted candidates are flagged with a star and can be filtered separately.
How to Shortlist
- Open a job and go to the Candidates tab.
- Click a candidate row to open their detail panel on the right.
- Review the Career Story panel before deciding — check the velocity score, Trajectory Fit label, Career Anchor, and any items listed under Gaps & Flags. A high match score with a Stretch or Step Back trajectory warrants a closer look before shortlisting.
- Click the Shortlist button in the detail panel to star the candidate.
- Use the Shortlisted filter in the filter bar to view only your shortlisted candidates.
Triage Badges
Each candidate is automatically tagged with a triage status — Strong, Maybe, or Skip — based on how their score compares to your screening threshold. These tags help you prioritise your review queue. Triage tags and shortlist status are independent: running a re-triage updates the tags but does not change who is shortlisted.
Quick Shortlist: Top 5 and Top 10
The Progress section on the job overview page includes two shortcut chips — Shortlist Top 5 and Shortlist Top 10 — that immediately star the highest-scoring unshortlisted candidates without opening the Candidates tab. HireSalt ranks candidates by score descending and skips anyone already starred. A brief confirmation message shows how many candidates were shortlisted. If fewer than five (or ten) eligible candidates exist, all available ones are shortlisted and the count reflects the actual number processed.
Keyboard Navigation in Grid View
Once you open a candidate's detail panel in grid view, you can move between candidates without returning to the list:
- Press
↑or↓to move to the previous or next candidate in the ranked list. - The Prev and Next buttons at the top of the detail panel do the same with a single click.
- When you reach the last candidate on the current page, pressing
↓or clicking Next advances to the first candidate on the following page automatically.
Keyboard navigation respects any active filters — only candidates currently visible in the filtered list are included in the traversal sequence.
