Creating Your First Job

Last updated

A job in HireSalt holds the role you are hiring for, its job description, and the scoring criteria every resume is measured against. Set it up once, then upload resumes and get a ranked list with the reasoning behind each score.

Steps

  1. On the Jobs page, click Screen a new role.
  2. Enter the job title. Use the exact title you would post (e.g., "Senior Python Developer").
  3. Add the job description: upload it as a PDF or DOCX file, or paste the text. A description of at least 100 characters gives the AI more context for accurate scoring.
  4. Check the scoring criteria the AI drafts from the description, and adjust the weights if needed.
  5. Click Create job. Your job is now ready for resume uploads.
Tip: No description yet? Use the generate option to have the AI write one from the job title.

What the AI drafts for you

When you add a description, HireSalt parses it, detects the role level and industry, and drafts scoring criteria from the requirements it finds. Review them before you add resumes, while you can still change the criteria and how much each one counts.

Role level and industry

The detected seniority and industry tune the default weights. For example, an industry preset can give Skills Match a larger share for software roles, or Experience a larger share for construction. You can pick a different level or industry, or move the sliders by hand. The weights always sum to 100%.

The scoring categories

Every resume is scored on 7 categories with 33 sub-criteria. Five carry weight by default: Skills Match, Experience, Education, Semantic Fit, and Stability & Trajectory. Practicalities and Engagement Profile are scored for context and carry no weight unless you give them some.

Weight lock: The weights lock when the first candidate for this job is scored. To change them after that, click Reset criteria on the Scoring Setup tab (scores are deleted, resumes are kept), or duplicate the job and set new weights on the copy.

Next step

Creating the job opens resume upload. Each resume uses 1 credit to score, and new accounts start with free credits, so you can try a real role before buying anything.
